Lights! Camera! Action!

Overview:

To create a five to seven minute situational comedy, based on historical, as well as modern situational comedy shows and characters. Teams must be prepared to dress in character and write a show with two or three special guest stars. Teams will also be required to write and produce a thirty-second sponsored ad for their program.

Description:

Two weeks prior to the event, teams will receive a packet of information based on their assigned situational comedy. Each team member will be assigned a role; their task is to do a full character-study and to bring a costume associated with that character. For example, one team member may be asked to play the character Woody from the hit television show Cheers. Once teams arrive, they will be grouped by their characters, provided a scenario and given a specific amount of time to produce their show. As an added bonus, teams will be expected to produce a thirty second commercial based on a specific product. Teams will then take center stage in front of a live studio audience! Each team’s performance will be recorded: A master DVD will be provided for your enjoyment.

A panel on the following criteria will judge teams:
  • Creativity
  • Collaboration
  • Humor
  • Showmanship

Outcomes:

  • Creative Problem-Solving
  • Camaraderie
  • Value of creating fun at work
